Lower back pain can develop while resting on one's back due to the natural, lower-lumbar curvature, which can be seen in Image 1. In most circumstances, this natural curvature of the spine in the lower back region does not permit the entire back to rest evenly on the resting surface, which results in a lack of support under the lower back. This can lead to eventual discomfort, tossing and turning, or even bodily pain. With the right memory foam pillow, we can solve all our sleep troubles!

Fortunately, there is a way to help relieve the discomfort in the lower back region, and it is actually a method prescribed by many health care professionals today. Because the body is connected from head to toe (highlighting the importance of an integral, process-oriented perspective of sleep and the human body) an elevation of the upper thigh region will cause the hips to rotate 'up' or 'clockwise' (in the image below). With the elevation of the thighs and pivoting of the hips, the lower back is 'pulled' or straightened, thus allowing for a more even distribution of weight on the resting surface. Solution!

With the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow's unique design, the low-end of the memory foam pillow creates a seamless integration of the body with the resting surface. This provides an unnoticeable interaction with the body while simultaneously providing support all the way to the knee area. Although seamless, there is a noticeably different level of comfort derived by this use.

This is a proven technique for helping with lower back discomfort while sleeping on one's back, so we'll keep it short for you here. The Stasis Sleep™ Pillow is explicitly designed to take advantage of this technique, thus adding more value for those who are looking for that perfect night's sleep. Again, it's the world's most ultimate Memory Foam Pillow!

Looking for a comfortable way to sleep on his front or stomach, the developer of the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow attempted to align his body symmetrically, or align the body equally on both sides (Image 1 - below) throughout the entire length of the body. This allows gravity to be distributed evenly on BOTH sides of the body simultaneously. In effect, this allows the body to be acted upon correctly, while rebuilding more evenly during the resting period. This is the ideal way to align the lower-body when sleeping on the front or stomach. But, the inventor identified one small problem with this, which might come as quite some surprise… the toes and ankles!

"The TOES and ANKLES…are you kidding?"

Sounds wild, doesn't it? Take a few moments the next time you go to sleep on your stomach to notice something that inevitably happens to most people…we pivot one of our feet outward and move the leg to the side and away from the body (Image 2)! The answer to why this happens is the key to achieving a better night's sleep for anyone who sleep on his or her stomach!

sleep position ankle discomfort leg turn
Image 1 Image1a Image 2

In Image 1, you will notice the body is aligned nicely, meaning symmetrically, but the weight of the lower leg is placed on the delicate toes and ankles (Image 1a), which is due to the inability of many people's ankles to fully straighten, extend comfortably to align with the shin, and rest evenly on the resting surface. The body doesn't like this excessive pressure, so we attempt to relieve this discomfort by a shift or pivot of the foot out to the side (Image 2). sleep - process of tossing and turning This achieves the goal of relieving the discomfort on the delicate toes and ankle, but unfortunately leads to a set of different circumstantial discomfort(s)! Yes, the process begins at our ankles!

But, what does this have to do with the lower back and discomfort? That is a good question! With the pivoting of the ankle to alleviate the potential pressure on the ankles, top of the feet, and throughout the toes, more than the foot alone changes it's position! The entire leg, all the way up into the hip and lower back region, ALSO pivots to create an asymmetrical (non-balanced or non-equal) bodily alignment!

lack of support leading to lower back discomfort
Image 3

This leads to eventual discomfort in the lower back region with gravity affecting the different halves of the body unevenly as the body attempts to repair itself from the waking hours. The muscles and skeletal system in these regions are unevenly, or non-symmetrically, aligned on each side of the body. We are ideally looking for balanced, symmetrical, bodily positioning when we sleep…hence "Stasis" Sleep™ Pillow. Achieving a balanced bodily position is critical to getting a good night's rest and avoid the eventual discomfort of the affects of gravity on our bodies.

The leg now, instead of returning to the original point of discomfort, continues it journey in the only direction it can…upward (images 3-5)! This turning does help to temporarily relieve the discomfort experienced in the previous resting position, but you probably can guess what happens next.

turn over to side sleep position
Image 4

You guessed it…as the leg moves upward to relieve the slight discomfort in the lower back region, it only adds to the asymmetry in the lower back region, and this movement ALSO elevates/raises the hip on the side of the upwardly moving leg (Image 3 - right arrow)!

As this takes place though, the hips and lower back don't work in isolation and the TORSO (body's mid-section) lifts off the support surface on the same side as the initial leg's side (Image 4).

side sleep - new problems
Image 5

AMAZING! This creates a lack of support for the hips, lower back, AND torso, which can easily lead to discomfort, and the body eventually moves into "The Roll" (images 4 & 5). There you have it…the "cycle of Tossing & Turning" explained in a linear, process-oriented way.

Image 6 illustrates how the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow is used to help relieve the weight from the delicate feet and ankles and evenly distribute it across the lower leg. This allows the body to stay in the ideal, symmetrically aligned sleeping position, which helps prevent potential lower back pain while you sleep on your stomach.

"Innovative…truly innovative!"

The pillow design's length, width, and height provide you with the versatility needed to adjust to your own desired use. The level of comfort you can achieve from the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow is seemingly seamless. If used properly, you won't even know it is there, except now you can maintain a more comfortable night's rest while sleeping on your stomach!

This ankle memory foam pillow use is the ultimate sleep aid.

back and hip discomfort
Image 1

When sleeping on one's side, the most common set of discomforts are in the (lower) back and hips. Because of the body's natural shape, the leg opposite or farthermost from the resting surface is not aligned straight with the rest of the body is pulled by gravity down toward the opposite leg. This places undue stress on the hips and pulls down on the lower back region (Image 1).

As you can see in Image 2, the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow can be used for upper AND lower leg support. This entire leg support is far more superior than the known, leg memory foam pillow most of us have seen in the past. It's a perfect between the knee pillow!

What also makes the Stasis Sleep™ Pillows far more superior is it's versatility within this use. Because of the angle of inclination and variable height, the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow can be varied for desired elevation. This allows you to find your own level of comfort and not be stuck with one elevation alone. Again, an example of yet another aspect of overall, unprecedented versatility of the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow.

Perfect Pillow!!
The way a pillow should be!

TIP: Think about trying out a different sleep position, like front or back sleep, as these sleep positions work with gravity and not against it. With a side sleep positioning, as stated, the muscles and bones are being pulled differently on each half of the body (or non-symmetrically).
