Let's get started!

"Back pain strikes…"

The statistics are staggering! After the common cold, back pain (or injury) is the second leading reason for missed work in the US today, causing over 100 MILLION missed work days a year. Between 30 and 60 million dollars are spent annually on back disabilities. (The vast majority of back pain is located in the lower back region.) As you can easily see, back pain is quite prevalent in our society!

After doing some research on back pain, we found many different philosophies of what causes a great number of back problems and even more on how to help improve your back problems. There are thousands upon thousands of back surgeries every year, and according to some researchers and physicians, this doesn't need to be the case. You will soon see some very interesting things about back pain that we didn't know before doing the research ourselves.

We found there is a growing acceptance and approach to back pain that helps us understand and treat a majority of the back problems found among people today. It's an approach that can help people regain their confidence, alleviate back pain, and even keep him or her from going under the knife! Back surgery is expensive and is something most of us probably would prefer to avoid if possible.

Today we are seeing more and more back pain professionals tell us some very interesting facts about back pain.

"Take a deep breath, you are about
to hear about some amazing discoveries in science!"

Most people who have never experienced chronic back pain actually have the same back conditions defined by many doctors as the reason for back pain. Just hold on to your seat and listen to more of this.

The prestigious New England Journal of Medicine did a study of a group of people who never had chronic back pain, aside from an occasional few days here in there like most of us have had. What they found is very interesting! Of this pain free group, 64% of them had "abnormal disks", with 38% with more than one such disc! 52% of the same group actually had a "bulging" disk, and another 28% had a herniated disk! No pain for these people? Then why do so many doctors use these same causal diagnoses to explain to us why we are experiencing chronic back pain?

Not only that, many people after having back surgery still experience pain! And, in fact, there are many cases where after having opened up the back of the patient, surgeons found no problems and simply sewed the person back up!

How does that grab you? What this study concluded is that it is very likely that these types of back "abnormalities" may not be the true causal link for why people suffer with chronic back pain. And, since it turns out that these conditions are not really "abnormal", but appear to be quite normal for people who do not suffer from this pain, how can this be the causal justification for those of us who suffer from chronic back pain?

It seems like a reasonable conclusion when having not studied and statistically calculated the normal state of our backs today. And, we really don't think most doctors have intentionally set out to deceive anyone. Many doctors today seem to hold true to the old beliefs regardless of all the evidence against this diagnosis. Although, there are recent shifts toward this new, informed perspective.

It's not just the doctors either. Not surprisingly, this turns out to be a hard thing to convince to us who suffer from chronic back pain as well. Although it might be important to note that in no way do the recent studies show that there are not bulging or herniated discs that can lead to chronic back pain. Of course there are. And, it surely does not mean the pain experienced by us is not real. Oh, it is real all right, no doubt about that! It is just that there is good reason to at the very least take another look at how we go about seeing this problem. And, there are some other ways to help us take care of it without having to spend a fortune or go under the knife!

"So, what are the main causal
factors of back pain for most of us?"

Modern science is finally finding what many of the ancients already knew. The mind and body are inextricably linked. The affects of stress on our bodies is being identified more and more, and many of the major metropolitan hospitals are finding ways to integrate a more 'holistic' perspective of mental and psychological therapies into their treatment programs to help their clients, you and me. This recognition has been growing and slowly transforming the way we see and apply modern healthcare treatment.

Did you know that there is a greater prevalence of back pain seen in more developed, industrialized societies than in the more physically demanding work force of other countries? Why? Because there is a greater degree of psychological stress found in the more information based, modern societies! On the surface, common sense seems to tell us that a more physically demanding culture would have a greater prevalence of back pain, but this is not the case.

Ok, this topic has been written about in great detail, so we will not go into it anymore on this web page, but we feel a case must be made, with factual information, to help us all make a transition from the old accepted ways of understanding back pain to a more modern, integral perspective. The stress response of our bodies can have an amazing effect on our bodies! Some professionals have been noted to say that over 90% of health care problems are "stress related".

In short, psychological stress seems to be a major causal factor of chronic back pain seen today in the US.

"Not the only causal factor though.
There's more!"

We also realize psychological stress is NOT the only thing that leads to back discomfort and pain, but can be a combination of factors. Many of us are experiencing the (lower) back and neck discomfort early in the morning, soon after awakening. The developer of the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow has taken a good look at the human body and the different ways we sleep, and has identified the causal factors that can lead to discomfort and pain in the back and neck during sleep.

Depending on how you sleep, you will be interested in different ways to use your Stasis Sleep™ Pillow. And, if you are interested, you can read about all the other options you have when using your pillow! You can even read about how these amazing pillows can be used as a system to provide you with total body support and comfort! Again, incredible versatility!

You can find out how the different bodily aches take place with the following links:

Some of the reasons for discomfort and pain you will find are quite obvious, about which you might already know, while others, like the ankle use for those who prefer to sleep on their stomachs, identify new intervention points that can lead to circumstantial discomfort and pain. We think you will be quite amazed at some of the conclusions.

We have found that every natural sleeping position has certain downfalls and can lead to back and neck pain…simply because of the natural curves of the body. Our naturally curvy bodies are attempting to sleep on a relatively flat sleeping surface, so of course we are going to have a little lack of continuity and stress factors on our bodies as we sleep! The Stasis Sleep™ Pillow intervenes, supports, and contours in every different possible circumstance by which most potential discomfort and pain originates.

After reading about the Stasis Sleep™ Pillow, it really is a no-brainer. It's a smart pillow for smart people!
